Pointed elven ears? | Spiczaste uszy elfów?

Do you think the Elves in the later stages of Tolkien's Legendarium had pointed ears or normal, like humans? I once looked for Tolkien's late descriptions and statements. My conclusion was: there are no pointy ears; elves differed from people in special "shining", you could feel the mysticism around them and you could see the glow of stars in the eyes. These arguments are similar to those of Michael Martinez, a Tolkien scholar (see here).

 

But after my research I must agree that the Elves had pointed ears even in the post-Lord-of-the-Rings stage. I have asked a Tolkien scholar and my friend, Carl F. Hostetter. He wrote that Tolkien always imagined that his Elves had pointed ears. Carl explained, there are three pieces of evidence that he considers conclusive

• the relationship between Elvish words for 'leaf' and 'ear' (stems √LAS and √S-LAS);
• Tolkien's statement in Etymologies (HoMe V, 367) that Elvish ears are more pointed than are those of humans;
• Tolkien's statement in Letters (No. 27 from 1938) that Hobbit ears are only slightly pointed and "elvish".

Another prominent Tolkien researcher, Maciej Garbowski (Arael Eldalómë), notes that the elven ears were slightly pointed, resembling a beech leaf, and were not as floppy as in some characters in the Peter Jackson adaptation.

Jak uważacie, czy elfy w późniejszych stadiach Legendarium Tolkiena miały uszy spiczaste czy raczej normalne jak ludzie? Kiedyś szukałem jak najpóźniejszych opisów i wypowiedzi Tolkiena na ten temat. Mój wniosek był taki: w czasach pisania Władcy Pierścieni i potem nie ma wątku spiczastych uszu; Elfy różniły się od ludzi szczególnym „lśnieniem”, można było wyczuć wokół nich mistycyzm i dostrzec blask gwiazd w oczach. Byłem spiczasto-ucho-sceptykiem. Moje argumenty podobne są do wniosków Michaela Martineza, znanego badacza Tolkiena (patrz tutaj).

 
Ale po ostatnich dociekaniach i rozmowach muszę ostatecznie się zgodzić, że elfy miały spiczaste uszy także w późnym Legendarium. Zapytałem wybitnego badacza tolkienowskiego i mojego przyjaciela, Carla F. Hostettera. Napisał mi, że Tolkien zawsze wyobrażał sobie, że jego elfy mają spiczaste uszy. Carl wyjaśnił, że istnieją trzy dowody, które uważa za rozstrzygające:

• związek między elfickimi słowami oznaczającymi „liść” i „ucho” (rdzenie √LAS i √S-LAS); 
• Stwierdzenie Tolkiena w Etymologiach (HoMe V, 367), że uszy elfów są bardziej spiczaste niż u ludzi; 
• Stwierdzenie Tolkiena w Listach (nr 27 z 1938 r.), że uszy hobbitów są tylko lekko spiczaste i „elfie”.

Inny wybitny badacz Tolkienowski, Maciej Garbowski (Arael Eldalómë) zauważa, że elfie uszy były delikatnie spiczaste, przypominały kształtem liść buku, a nie były takie kłapciate, jak u niektórych postaci w ekranizacji Petera Jacksona.
