#TolkienAncestry at FamilyTreeDNA!

We are famous! My genetic and genealogical research, my cooperation with the Tolkien family from the USA (Eric Tolkien, Charlaine Tolkien, thank you!) and help from my genetic colleagues (Ł. Łapiński, A. Martyka, J. Erstad) found its way to the main pages of the FamilyTreeDNA website! This is one of the major genetic services in the world.

FamilyTreeDNA writes:

"You (R-Y42738) and J. R. R. Tolkien (R-Y42738) share a common paternal line ancestor (R-Y42738) who lived around 200 BCE (2200 years ago).

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer, poet, philologist, and academic, and is best known as the author of the fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He is widely considered to be the “father” of modern high fantasy fiction.

Tolkien's paternal ancestry was from East Prussia in what is now the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast. His great grandfather emigrated to London in the 1770s.

His haplogroup was determined by Big Y testing of a relative in the R1a Project and described on the TOLKNIĘTY blog."

  1. Lol ! Je me demande ce que Tolkien aurait pensé s'il avait su que ses ancêtres préhistoriques venaient du Niger et du Nigéria !
