Wow! We have found something fantastic! It is from A Film Portrait of J. R. R. Tolkien from 1996. Another (third) photo of Arthur Reuel Tolkien! And does it just seem to me that this is the fourth Tolkien to have a slight strabismus? (see, for example, the picture of Henry Tolkien and Charles Edwin Cuthbert Tolkien in this text). And a question to you: Maybe the right picture of Tolkien's father is the one with number 1?

Rety, znalezłem coś fantastycznego! To z filmu biograficznego o Tolkienie z 1996 (link na Elendilion.pl). Kolejne, trzecie już znane zdjęcie ojca J. R. R. Tolkiena! I czy tylko mi się wydaje, że to już czwarty Tolkien, który ma lekkiego zeza? (popatrz na przykład na zdjęcie Henry'ego Tolkiena i Charlesa Edwina Cuthberta Tolkiena w tym zestawieniu). I pytanie do Was: może jednak właściwe zdjęcie ojca Profesora Tolkiena to to z numerem 1?

It's time to look at father J. R. R. Tolkien in a completely different way. Until now, we thought that in the well-known photo from South Africa (see below), the Professor's father is sitting on the left side (as reported by, for example, Tolkien Family Album). It was only a careful analysis of the photos by, among others, Carl F. Hostetter that proved that Arthur Reuel Tolkien was in fact the man sitting in the center. 

 

The first photo shows three faces: 1) someone who was Arthur Tolkien for us until recently, 2) the proper Arthur Tolkien, 3) a 100% sure portrait of Arthur Tolkien from another photo (the one that shows the whole family with little Ronald). I think we all agree that photos 2) and 3) show the same figure - the father of our beloved Professor.

Czas zupełnie inaczej spojrzeć na ojca J. R. R. Tolkiena. Do tej pory uważaliśmy, że na znanym zdjęciu z Afryki Południowej (patrz niżej) ojciec Profesora siedzi po lewej stronie (tak informował np. "Tolkien Family Album"). Dopiero dokładna analiza zdjęć dokonana między innymi przez Carla F. Hostettera dowiodła, że Arthur Reuel Tolkien to tak naprawdę mężczyzna siedzący pośrodku. 

 

Na pierwszym zdjęciu przedstawiamy trzy twarze: 1) ktoś, kto do niedawna był dla nas Arthurem Tolkienem, 2) właściwy Arthur Tolkien, 3) stuprocentowo pewny portret Arthura Tolkiena z innej fotografii (tej, która przedstawia całą rodzinę z małym Ronaldem). Chyba wszyscy się zgodzimy, że fot. 2) i 3) przedstawiają tę samą postać - ojca naszego kochanego Profesora.
